I apologize for not writing or tweeting lately. I had been meaning to write this post on how to increase conversion rate of your website, when I was suddenly hit with debilitating illness called gout.

I thought it was reserved for old geezers, who got a sore toe, if they ate too much meat. Nope, it’s actually a severe form of arthritis.

I’ll spare you the gory details, but it’s like having shards of glass slicing into your flesh every minute, 24/7, for a couple of weeks.

The anti-inflammatory pain killers didn’t help much. I didn’t sleep, or do much of anything during those weeks.

I’m on the mend now, and happy to say, that I don’t need to take any special medication. I can control it through diet, because my doctor suggested becoming vegetarian – which I did immediately – instead of relying on pills.

So far, so good. I’m still very tender, but as of yesterday, I’m hobbling about without the use of a cane, which makes me very happy.

Even if you have everything in life, if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything. So I wish every one of you good health, that you never have to experience anything like the pain that I’ve endured.

May you all be blessed with happy, healthy and prosperous lives.

I’d also like to thank everyone for their birthday greetings. There were so many of them, that I couldn’t possibly say thank you to each one of you. I’m very grateful for all the wishes that you sent my way, and I’d like to say THANK YOU for thinking of me.

Dozens of you asked me about the Ultimate Heatmap theme for WordPress. Yes, we’re still working on it. There’s a whole year of fresh data that’s been pumped into version 2.0 of the UHM Report, which I’ll have uploaded to the Vault by next week.

Simply pick the template that you want from the report. Then log into your WordPress dashboard, pick our theme, and click to activate any layout you want. One click is all it takes, to get your ads into the best converting spots.

You can upload your own masthead. There’s a choice of fonts and colors for each element, like post, title, background, etc. There’s also a few core designs to pick from, like square corners, round corners and granite.

As new features and templates get added, you’ll never have to download, or install them. They’ll just appear for you, ready to use, because they get pushed to you in the UHM Dashboard.

Just recently, we’ve added several single column templates, simple ad rotation and ad tracking. You can upload your own ads, use pre-made ones from affiliate programs, or just use AdSense ads on your entire site.

So as you can see, I’m pretty excited about getting UHM on the market. I can hardly wait, because I’ll be switching all my affiliate sites to run on it.

Also, over the past few weeks, many of you asked how to get coaching. Yes, I still do coaching, but only until the end of the year, and it’s only for Vault members.

The past six weeks have given me plenty of time to think. This newsletter has had a good run. I’ve been writing it for 12 years in one form or another. The online world has changed to short format publishing, and its time for me to change with it.

So in the spirit of change, I’m going to try a short format. Not a newsletter, but one concept or idea per issue. Short and to the point, containing one secret, takeaway, or piece of actionable advice.

Using Color to Increase Your Website Conversion

Earlier this year, I wrote a research paper called Color Persuasion. It’s the Science and Influence of Color on Purchasing Decisions.

Did you know, that women like purple 30% more than men? That red is not a favorite color anymore. That blue improves mental tasks. Or that teal converts best for certain types of insurance?

The one thing that really surprised me is the power of orange. Even though it’s the least favorite color, it’s the highest converting color for call to action buttons.

Skeptics can run a test and try it. On average, you can get anywhere from 8 – 20% more conversions, by simply changing the color of your order and buy buttons.

The trick is to use orange sparingly and only on your calls to action. If you use orange anywhere else on your page, it will loose its effectiveness.

I dare you to try it in a couple of split tests. If you’re like the majority, you’ll be amazed at the power of orange.
